What does a “Review” result mean?
A “Review” result means the verification could not be automatically approved or failed and requires manual assessment. You need to review the check and decide whether to accept or reject the client. A Review is not a failure — it simply means further checks are needed before a final decision can be made.
What to do when a check is in Review
When a verification is marked as Review, you should:
1. Check the Result Overview to see which part of the verification needs attention (e.g. biometrics, document, or AML checks)
2. Review all supporting evidence, including ID images, extracted data, and the biometric video
3. Make a decision to approve or reject the verification based on your assessment
Add notes to explain your decision, as these are included in the final report for audit purposes
The final report will only be available once a decision has been made.
Common reasons for a Review result
A verification may be flagged for Review for a number of reasons, including:
Biometric uncertainty — the system could not confidently match the client to their ID or confirm liveness
Document issues — the ID image may be unclear, damaged, or difficult to read (e.g. glare or poor lighting)
Data mismatches — client details could not be matched against trusted data sources
AML or PEP matches — a potential sanctions, PEP, or adverse media match requires manual review
These do not automatically mean the verification should be rejected — they require your judgement
Understanding other result statuses
Pass — the verification meets requirements and no further action is needed
Review — manual assessment is required before a decision can be made
Fail — the verification did not meet required checks
Audit and compliance considerations
When completing a Review, you are responsible for documenting your decision. Notes added during review are included in the final report and support your compliance and audit requirements
