Quick answer
A manual verification checks the details from an ID you've already sighted against government and other data sources. There's no face match or liveness check, and your client doesn't need to do anything.
Go to Manual > Verify, enter your client's details exactly as they appear on their ID, click Submit, check the details and click Yes. The result appears in Manual > Completed.
When to use a manual verification
Use it when you've already sighted your client's ID, either in person or as a certified copy, and you only need to verify the details on it. A biometric check isn't needed in this case.
For example:
your client came into your office with their ID
your client gave you a certified copy of their ID
your client can't complete the verification on a smartphone, and you've sighted their ID
Check your own AML/CFT programme to confirm when a manual verification is enough.
Which IDs can I use?
Choose one of these from the ID document dropdown:
NZ Driver Licence
AUS Driver Licence
NZ Passport
AUS Passport
These are the only IDs that can be manually verified, because they're the ones we can check against government sources. The fields below the dropdown change to match the ID you choose. For example, an NZ Driver Licence needs the Licence number and Licence Version.
Foreign IDs can't be manually verified. For those, send your client a verification to complete on their phone instead.
How to run a manual verification
Go to Manual > Verify.
Fill in the Manual Verification form. Fields marked * are required:
Internal reference: your own reference for this client
First name, Middle name(s) and Last name: exactly as shown on the ID
Date of birth: DD/MM/YYYY
ID document: the type of ID, then its details. For an NZ Driver Licence, that's the Licence number and Licence Version.
Country and address: start typing in Address line 1 and choose the right address from the suggestions. This fills in the Suburb, City and Postal code.
Click Submit.
A Review pop-up shows everything you entered and asks "Are the details entered above correct?" Check every detail against the ID.
Click Yes to run the check.
Click No to go back and fix something.
You'll see "Verification successfully processed", and the result appears in Manual > Completed with a Pass or Fail status.
Check carefully before you click Yes. Each submitted manual verification is charged, so a typo means paying for a second check.
Why did my manual verification fail?
Details entered differently from the ID. A shortened name, a missing or extra middle name, a typo, or a wrong licence number or version.
Not enough data sources found (NZ). In NZ, a name has to be matched by 2 sources: 1 government and 1 independent. Some people, such as young people or those recently back from overseas, may only appear in one.
Name has changed (AU or NZ passport). Usually a married name, where your client is using an older ID issued before the change.
No access to the data source. Check with your Customer Success Manager or email support@aplyid.com.
To see which part failed, open the verification in Manual > Completed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I charged for a manual verification?
Yes, each one you submit is charged. See When am I charged for a check?
I made a mistake after clicking Yes. Can I fix it?
No, you'll need to start again.
Can I upload a copy of the ID?
Keep your own record of the ID you sighted, as your AML/CFT programme requires.
Can I verify a client with only one name?
No. First name and last name are both required.
How long is a completed manual verification kept?
The same as every other check. It's archived 7 days after it's completed, or 1 hour after the report is downloaded, whichever comes first. After that it can't be recovered, so download and save the report straight away.
