How to run a manual identity verification

When and how to use manual verification in APLYiD, and why manual checks sometimes fail

Updated yesterday

Manual verification allows you to record an identity check that was completed in person, rather than remotely via an SMS or email link. This is useful when a client is physically present and you have sighted their ID documents directly.

When to use manual verification

Use manual verification when:

  • Your client cannot complete the biometric process remotely (e.g. no smartphone, accessibility issues)

  • You have verified the client's identity face-to-face and need to record this in APLYiD

  • The remote biometric check has failed and you have sighted the documents in person

How to run a manual verification

  1. Log in to APLYiD and go to Manual β†’ Verify

  2. Complete the client's details

  3. Ensure you've met physically seen the individual and they match their ID

  4. Confirm the result and save the record

Why has my manual verification failed on the name?

Manual verifications perform a database check against the name and other details you enter. The most common reasons for a name failure are:

  • The name was entered differently from how it appears on the document (e.g. shortened version, middle name included or excluded)

  • There is a spelling discrepancy between what you typed and the document

Fix: Re-enter the client's name exactly as it appears on their ID document, including any middle names if present.

Can I edit a manual verification after saving it?

Contact APLYiD support if you need to amend a completed manual verification. Depending on the change required, our team may be able to assist or you may need to create a new check.

Manual vs. biometric β€” which is better for compliance?

Biometric verification provides a stronger audit trail as it includes a liveness check and facial matching. Manual verification is acceptable when the client was physically present and you sighted the original documents. Check your organisation's AML/CTF programme to confirm which verification method applies to different client scenarios.
