Results overview — understanding your verification results (NZ, AU, UK) [V2.0]

A complete guide to reading and actioning verification results in APLYiD — covers NZ, AU, and UK.

Updated yesterday

When a client completes their verification, APLYiD returns a result made up of several components. This article explains what each section of the result screen means and what action, if any, is required from you.

Overall result

The top of the result screen shows an overall outcome: Pass, Fail, Review, or Error. Below that is a component-by-component breakdown.

Result components

Biometric (face match + liveness)

This checks two things: that the person completing the verification matches the photo on their ID document, and that a real, live person was present (not a photo or screen recording). If either fails, the overall result will be Review or Fail.

Document scan (tampering checks)

APLYiD analyses the captured ID images for signs of tampering or fraud. The four sub-checks are:

  • Detail Check — verifies that the document's measurements, fonts, and colours match a genuine ID

  • Document Integrity — confirms the document is a physical ID, not a photocopy or screen image

  • Image Composition — checks that the image is live and present, not a photo of a photo

  • Photo Check — looks for signs that a replacement photo has been placed over the original portrait

A flag on any of these moves the check to Review rather than automatic Fail, because minor issues like glare or shadows can occasionally trigger them. Review the ID images yourself and use your judgement.

Data verification (NZ and AU)

For NZ and AU clients, APLYiD cross-references the client's details against independent data sources (Electoral Roll, Credit Header, Landline). The following must match for a Pass:

  • Name verified — first and last name must match on at least one data source

  • Date of birth verified — confirmed from the ID document

  • Address verified — address must match on the same data source where the name matched

For UK clients, data verification uses UK-specific credit and electoral data sources. The matching logic is the same — name, DOB, and address must cross-reference.

Other sections on the result screen

  • Scanned Document — the images of the ID captured during the session. Review these if any tampering checks flagged.

  • Extracted Data — the information APLYiD pulled from the ID. If there is a name mismatch, check this against the Provided Data to spot typos. You can edit extracted data and resubmit.

  • Provided Data — the details you entered when creating the check. Useful for cross-referencing if the client's name varies from their legal name.

  • Video — a recording of the client's liveness session. Available to review if the biometric step flagged.

  • Notes — required if you are manually reviewing a check. Your notes are included in the downloaded PDF report.

What to do with a Review result

A Review result means APLYiD was not able to make an automated decision and requires a human to assess. To action a Review:

  1. Open the check and read the result overview to see which component flagged.

  2. Review the relevant section — biometric video, ID document images, or data results.

  3. Enter your notes explaining your assessment.

  4. Click Pass or Fail to record your decision.

  5. The Download button will then become available.

Downloading the report

Click Download on any Pass or completed Review result to generate a PDF. The PDF includes all result data, extracted information, and any notes you added. Save this for your records — once a check is archived, the personal data is purged and the detailed report is no longer available to regenerate.

Common Review and Fail scenarios

No independent data match

The client's name and address could not be matched in any independent data source. This is common for clients who have not had credit in the last 3 years, do not have utility bills in their name, or have recently moved. Address is checked first — if it fails, the data check cannot continue. Ask the client to confirm their current address or use a manual verification.

Name mismatch

The extracted name from the ID did not exactly match the data sources. Check the Extracted Data section for typos or formatting differences (e.g. a middle name included, a hyphen missing). You can edit the extracted data and resubmit to clear the flag if the error is on APLYiD's side.

Liveness fail

The system could not confirm that a live person completed the check. Watch the biometric video to assess. If the client appears genuine, you can manually pass the Review. Ask the client to retry on a well-lit device if needed.

Biometric face match fail

The face captured during the session did not match the photo on the ID. Common causes: poor lighting, low camera quality, or the person is not the document owner. Review the video and images and use your judgement.
