What if my client doesn't have a valid ID document?

What to do when a client doesn't have a valid accepted ID document for an APLYiD verification.

Updated yesterday

APLYiD requires a government-issued photo ID to run a biometric verification. If your client doesn't have one of the accepted documents, there are a few options available.

What ID documents does APLYiD accept?

APLYiD accepts the following documents depending on your region:

  • Passport (any country)

  • Driver licence (NZ, AU, or UK issued)

  • NZ firearms licence

  • NZ Kiwi Access Card

The client must have a current (non-expired) document. Expired documents will not pass.

My client doesn't have any of these documents

If your client genuinely has no valid accepted ID, you have two options:

Option 1 — Manual verification

You can run a manual verification using alternative documents such as a bank statement, utility bill, or other proof of identity acceptable under your own policies. APLYiD records the manual check, giving you an audit trail. See How to run a manual identity verification for steps.

Option 2 — Verify in person

If the client is available in person, you can verify their identity face-to-face using whatever documents are acceptable under your policy and record this in APLYiD manually.

My client's ID is expired
APLYiD will not pass an expired document through the automated check. If the client has an expired document and no current one, the manual verification route is the recommended path.

My client has a foreign passport but no NZ/AU/UK driver licence

A passport from any country is accepted. As long as the passport is current and the biometric photo matches, the check can proceed. See Can I verify overseas clients or clients with foreign ID documents? for more detail.
